Photography
Photography was never something I thought I’d actually get into; until I took a digital photography class in college. The instructor taught us not only how to properly use the camera and explore it’s capabilities, but they also taught us how to use them in more unconventional ways. I truly enjoy street photography, and photographing vague subjects to create my own interpretations.
Uncertainty.
This series of photos was taken at the start of the second COVID-19 wave in the U.S.; the only word I can describe such a time with is uncertainty.
Street photography has always been something I wanted to try, and I felt like this moment in Pike Place was one of the best times to capture people and their environment in a real, vulnerable state.
These photos are a window into an era of tumultuous restlessness, while still allowing people and their surroundings to simply be.
Nostalgia.
We all have those cherished memories we could walk our minds through minute by minute, day by day, and that feeling of contentment that comes with these memories never washes away. I wanted to evoke a sense of nostalgia, warmth, and familiarity through my own childhood in this photo series.
Photographer Raymond Meeks was a big inspiration behind this project; through his familial photographs, I feel as though I’ve lived an entire childhood romping through the woods with his siblings, going on vacation with his family, as if I’ve known these strangers my entire life.
The sense of being in a photographs’ moment is a feeling I search for in the work I view, and it’s a feeling I do my best to convey to my audience.
